Hi. My name is Jennifer. I am 33 years old, mother of 4 boys and live in Ohio. I have suffered with a pituitary tumor since the birth of my first son which was 11 years ago. I had a prolactin secreting tumor removed Jan. 2001 (5mm) at the Cleveland Clinic. My highest prolactin level was 50. I had headaches and milk discharge for years. After surgery the discharge was only a little (which is great compared to what it was) and I now have a normal prolactin level of 5. In fact all my blood work is within normal limits. Here is the problem. In May of this year I passed out in the shower and suffered a minor head injury. I have been suffering from tachycardia, dizziness, headaches that never go away, shortness of breath at times. I went to see my doctor who sent me in to see a cardiologist. I had a tilt table test done and was diagnosed with neurocardiogenic syncop with heart rates up to 186 at times for hours. I am now on Toprol XL to help with that but the doctor thought my pituitary could be related. So since I had a tumor removed a MRI was scheduled. I received my results back and there is a new tumor on the left side (my previous was on the right) and it is 5mm. A few years ago the doctors saw a spot on the MRI but it just looked like a raised bump there not a tumor. I guess that shows that the tumor is growing but it is not secreting any hormone. I went back to the Clinic last week and saw a new doctor (my doctor moved to Seattle). He wants to wait a year and believes all my symptoms are not caused from the tumor. I think it is total cramp. I am extrremely tired all the time and spend most of my time laying around with headaches. It really stinks. Anyway I now have an importment with Dr. Maroon at UPMC in Pittsburgh and maybe he will shed some light on the problem. The report also said there is evidence of intracranial infarction or hemmorage but noone even looks at that! Is there anyone out there that has a new tumor in another spot on the pituitary. I worry about cancer (I know it is rare) but I still worry. When we asked the doctor if it could be cancer he replied a small chance it could be but he wouldn't know until he removed it (a year later)!!! Thank you for letting me ramble on. Jenn |
