Hello, I am a 32 year old mother of two boys aged 13 yrs. and the other is 20 months. I have was diagnosed with a pit. tumour when I was 8 months pregnant in Nov. 2003. An emergency transphenoidal "microscopic" surgery was done to relieve the pressure on my optic nerves as I was going blind. That surgery was successful in saving my sight, but was difficult as the tumour had hemoraged (spelling?). The ns wasn't able to remove much of the tumour, just relieved the pressure. Day of 1st surgery measurement was 27 mm. I had a second surgery (same way) in May 2005 as the tumour was causing headaches and visual problems. It measured 18mm at the time of my second surgery. My latest MRI (September) shows that second surgery wasn't all that successful as it now measures 16mm. My ns has recommened stereotactic radition. I sought another opinion in another province and this ns recommends endoscopic surgery through the nasal passages. I am leaning towards the 3rd surgery as radiation actually scares me! For me, the risks of losing my sight is just too much. Having already experiences blindness and having been lucky enough to get it back, radiation just scares me to death! There is also a 50% chance that I will be on hormone replacement after radiation. The oncologist has said that this radiation is safe, but everything that I have read is that the tumour has to be at least 1-2mm away from the optic chiasm.....my tumour is still pressing on the optic chiasm! I would really like to hear from people who could share their stories with me. I have looked at the posts and I find a lot are dated information. (ie stories from 2003) For those that have posted from that time, would you share your stories now? Any regrets for surgery? Any of you had endoscopic then radiation? Thanks, Cosmo ![]() |
