Well, the good news is that not much has changed since 2003 in the treatment of pituitary tumors. It sounds like you have a "grower". You need to understand your risks with a 3rd surgery (including hypopituitarism related to surgery). You will need to research the radiation protocols. There are several kinds of radiation protocols (proton, gamma-knife, stereotactic, novalis etc..). You need to consider places that have alot of experience with pituitary radiation. Typically, radiation will control tumor growth, and potential regrowth. The newer protocols and dosage methadology are less likely to damage adjacent brain structures. You need to visit with the physicians to discuss how these radiation protocols may apply to your particular case. Get other opinions too. It may be that a third surgery is the thing to do. Your doctors may suggest you do a 3rd surgery and radiation if there is regrowth to control tumor growth. There are newer studies that discuss outcomes. You can search pubmed at www.pubmed.com to review. Some of the articles are also free-text. Good luck! Minnie |
