Chris I had my prolactoma surgery in '83, and was then prescribed Bromocriptine, specifically because there was no other drug to treat a Pituitary tumor. I did not do well with taking the drug. I'm female and my doctor had me taking it vaginally instead of orally to avoid stomach issues. But nevertheless I felt horrible when I was taking it. I took it on and off for about 14 yrs. In the '90s, NBC's Tom Brokaw did a special report on Bromocriptine and the manufactor Sandoz. Bromocriptine in the PDR was listed for Parkinson patients, Pituitary tumors and lactating mothers. Drs would Rx bromocriptine to a mother when she decided to stop nursing. The insane part of this is that the body can do this on it's own. Some of those mothers experienced strokes, heart attacks, and death. Naturally lawsuits were filed against Sandoz. But Sandoz refused to remove Rx for mothers in the PDR. So this group of victims and their families went to NBC. The day after the show aired, Sandoz removed listing Bromocriptine for mothers in the PDR. Personally I hate this drug. But for some it works well. My suggestions: - make sure that they don't leave you ANY drug forever.
- and have them check your thyroid, many people with Pituitary problems have thyroid problems, such as Hypothyroidism.
