Hello to all I am so happy I finally found a site on Pituitary disorders! Here is my story...I am 37 yrs. old, I had transpenoidial surgery in 2003 to clean up a pituitary adenoma that apoplexied, but I will back up and go through what led up to that surgery. In 2001 I went my M.D. for a pretty routine check up. I was going through a divorce and having some problems with depression. I mentioned to the Dr. that I had been having problems with bad headaches and I had some weird milky discharge coming from my breasts. My M.D. called for a MRI. I went back for a followup and she said I had an 8mm pit. cyst, the puzzling thing was that all my hormone levels were normal range, so she advised to just keep close watch on it. I was having all kinds of personal emotional trauma at that time so I skipped going to the Dr. about this for a year. In 2003, I went back to the Dr., I was a mess, barely functioning day to day, severe headaches, sleeping all the time, more discharge, skippy periods. My Dr. ordered bloodwork and another MRI. I went to the hospital for the MRI and I was in there for an hour and a half, the tech. afterwards apologized for the test taking so long rubbed my shoulder with a concerned look on her face and said "I wish you the best of luck" , you will be hearing from your dr. soon, needless to say that freaked me out a bit. When I got home from the hospital about a 5 minuite drive, My M.D. was on my answering machine urging me to call asap! She told me my results, Pit cyst had grown to 11mm and there was bleeding, and I had to see a Neurosurgeon asap, this was in August. I saw a Neurosurgeon in Sept., he advised me that I needed surgery, because my hormone levels were normal but I was leaking milky discharge I had to have a mamogram to find out what was going on with my breasts first. The mamogram came back with suspicous lump in left breast. So In October I had a hook and wire biopsy, which came back fine, benign cyst. I had no health insurence, because I worked for a small company as a hair replacement tech. so with mounting health expenses and my new single mom status, I had to move myself and my two boys in with my parents so I would be totally indigent, thus able to qualify for medicaid, thus able to have surgery. On November 4th 2003, election day I entered the hospital for surgery. The Dr. advised my mother and I that the procedure should take only 4 hours, mine lasted 8. I had a massive spinal fluid leak that had to be repaired during surgery. I was in ICU for a day and the hospital for two days. I looked like a bad car accident victim, my nose was swollen almost to each of my ears, I had a huge knot on my forehead, I was told that was due to machinary used during surgery and mine lasted 8 hours so I had like a small burn with the knot. Anyway I made an amazing recovery, I started college that Jan. and graduated this past June. I have since started a new career with Cingular wireless. I have a lot of residual problems with my health, the lastest being a Thyroid Goiter, I also have memory problems, trouble concentrating, battle with weight constantly, potassium deficiancies, oh I forgot about that after surgery while still in ICU I had to drink liquid potassium..In a word YUCK! Anyway, All in all I am in pretty good shape, I dont feel so well everyday but I try to keep a positive attitude. I absolutely hate to go to the DR.S, everytime I go it seems there is some new "problem"., but I have two gorgeous sons and a great boyfriend and a mother and family that loves me very much that gets me through one day at a time!
