I have cushings disease for the 2nd time, having grown 2 new pituitary tumors after microadenoma was removed in 2001. Have seen several drs - neurosurgeon who did original surgery, 2 endocrinologists. My cortisol level is not consistently elevated. No surprise there - I had intermittent or cyclical cushings the last time as well. However, I've been told that no surgeon will remove these tumors until cortisol is consistently elevated. Meanwhile, I'm symptomatic and my life is on hold. I'm looking for doctors who actually care and will cut these damn things out! I'm willing to travel (currently live in Illinois) to get quality care. Any recommendations? I've been researching the SKull Base Institute in California, specifically Dr. Shahinian and Dr. Theodore Friedman. I want only the best this time. I don't want to have to go through this a 3rd time!
