Hi Beth, If you mean Dr. Daniel Kelly in Santa Monica, I am a patient of his.
IMO he is excellent! I had a macroadenoma that was removed in June 07 during
his last week at UCLA. We have Kaiser as our HMO and consulted with one of
their neurosurgeons and found out that he did only one pituitary surgery a
month on average, that's 12-15 a year. We then consulted with Dr. Kelly after
going to the pituitary support group at UCLA and concluded that he was VERY
experienced doing approx. 150 surgeries a year, well over a 1000 by now. I saw
an endo at Kaiser, have had all my MRI's and most of my lab tests done there
also, Dr. Kelly accepted those results and still does. There were only a very
few lab tests that UCLA required to be done there. All of my follow up endo
appts. and labs are done with the Kaiser endo and both she along with my GP Dr.
have been very cooperative in sending results to Dr. Kelly. Same with the
followup MRI's. We live in San Diego, which is much closer to LA than you but I
had no problem with being out of town for surgery, but I didn't fly or have a
long drive (only 2.5hrs). I had only one "in person" follow up 2 weeks later
and the rest have been consults by phone. I had very good results from my
surgery and IMO he is excellent and also a NICE person! Their staff is very
informative, helpful and friendly. I do attend the support group meetings
every 2 months and they are very informative along with meeting other pit
patients. Sharmyn McGraw is a very good contact www.hormones411.com . If you
haven't seen her website before, she has videos of Dr. Kelly and Dr Cohan (top
endo) speaking. They are worth viewing. Feel free to email her, very friendly
and she is an expert in pituitary problems. I assume that you have viewed Dr.
Kelly's website. Since Kaiser is an HMO and wouldn't pay for a surgeon not
associated with them, we had to pay "out of pocket". It was worth every
penny!!! NO REGRETS! I do hope this helps you and that I answered some of your
questions. Feel free to ask more. Diana
