One observation while doing this that might be a small RFE -
several of the files I had to split into sparc & i386 versions
differ only in the name of the 64-bit library path (i.e.
usr/openwin/lib/sparcv9/libfoo vs. usr/openwin/lib/amd64/libfoo).
If there was some way to wildcard or variable substitute those,
it would save unnecessary duplication. (Wildcarding would help
with dropping the old per-file compatibility links too - just
"drop_glob usr/openwin/lib/lib*" instead of naming each one.)
