But, in this case I doubt you have to do anything since the bug you're
fixing is a bug in an SVR4 package's metadata and not something where
you need postinstall to do something to the actual system, right? If so
any problems that arise for OpenSolaris in relation to your bugfix will
be "someone else's problem", namely: the OpenSolaris release team's :)

I think the postinstall is an issue, but it should probably be a separate
bug. There are other ON packages that still use postinstall scripts as well.
The package in question is for a device driver, not an application or service.
When it is installed for the first time, there are some entries in the ACPI
device table that need to be updated so that it can attach correctly. Are
there examples of other driver packages that have to do something similar in IPS?
