I suggest that the default for all commands be made "if-needed". This
would allow for a maximum of operational flexibility. This means that
if the only update available in your current set of repositories
impacts OpenOffice, you would not get a new boot environment during an
image-update. Likewise, changing facets to add or remove locale
support would not require a reboot, but modifying facets that cause
drivers to be removed would require a reboot since that has the
potential of preventing said reboot.
I like the default to be if-needed.
However I would also like an option to force an install of a package
with "never" is used and a package is marked as one requiring reboot.
This should be an extra option of course and by default pkg should fail
in such a case.
This would mean that you could create a situation where your machine
will crash or fail to reboot in case of power failure during pkg
installation.
Why should this be supported?
