On the contrary, it's very functional: you have to see the selected
icon in order to delete a document after reading it. It may not be
immediately obvious from the title (was that reg_5_27 or reg_5_28 that I
was just reading? Did I read that news story on reuters or CNN? Which
of the seven Jack London stories was that one?), and you may need to
scroll down several pages to get to it (if you've sync'ed
since the last time you were in the document view), so it helps to have
an obvious visual difference to look for.

That's a good reason, but it does make the app significantly harder
to use ... I haven't looked at the code that does this, but would
it be difficult to have the selected document use a different
character (even something like a * or a filled box) so it would be
obviously different from the other documents? Or, perhaps, invert
the characters in the document name as well as selecting the icon?
