I don't see any problem with choosing a different icon. The only problem then would be picking one specific for 'selected' entries. As for highlighting the whole row, I would stay against that simply becuase of the jogdial support. Moving up/down highlights the whole row (except for the icon), and pushing in on the dial selects the entry for viewing. Having the entire row highlighted would probably be more confusing from there.
