hi people

i have tried some linux distributions over last year
or so ; all of them have some pros and they all have
some weak points like with redhat 9 stable but too
premmitive you cant play any video unless install
mplayer
same is the case with the fedoras at least codecs are
needed to be installed. mandrake is nice but then some
nice packages are missing ( lex , yacc to name a few )

i recently got suse 9.3 professional ( thanks Mayank!)
but it has no mp3 support would you believe it amarok
and juk and other mm aplications wont play mp3 so you
have to have a good internet connection to download
the kde multimedia packages also it won't play any
video at all kaffine is there but without codec and i
tried to install the mplayer codecs ( in
/user/libwin32 ) but it wont work ( somebody help !!
here please ) i also tried
pcqlinux but it's too windows like and lacs xmms ( not
big deal but then who knows what else it has "not"
got )

so people i want a linux distributon which meets
following demands

1 good array of packages ( not the ones like apg or
random no generator normal people wont use them but
packages like say p2p applications and multimedia
applications)

2 responsive ( not like fc3 which seems slow on older
( but not too old 1.7GHz 256Mb machines alike )
machines )

3 good packages programming related packages ( that
is like given when we talk of linux but still )

4 nice looks ( with the theme manager)

5 nice audio video support

i found SUSE pretty close to my needs so is mandrake
with suse it is so feature reach that all other seem
subsets of this linux flavour but again requires some
post installtion work ( like mp3 support enabling and
video which i am yet to figure out by the way;
somebody help in this matter ) but

anybody knows a better distribution to meet my
demands
i don't want to keep on "trying out" all of them (
well i am yet to try ubuntu slakware etc ) until i
find the right one. my needs do sound like i am a
microsoft fan ( just click next next next ... ) but as
they say what M$ can do linux has already done it (
they = me ) please suggest me some nice distributions
and help about suse video problem.

thanks

                                           -nikhil
