Who so ever told you that must have meant one thing and managed to
convey an entirely different thing altogether. Use a distribution that
you would be comfortable with (if you are going to manage/support it) or
the folks who manage it find that it meets a large part of their needs.

By the way, what are the demands on an OS in terms of a UseCase ie what
do folks use the OS for ?
