The link: http://www.videolan.org It has pre-compiled binaries for a few of the major distros, but if you want to use the latest version / with Fedora / Mandriva etc., you'll need to rely on your package management software e.g. yum. In case of Fedora, you will get binaries from rpm.livna.org and www.freshrpms.net.
