Norton speeddisk is quite good at defragging your hard disk.
It moves even those files that MS defrag will leave near the 
end of the disk.  I suspect that Norton 2000/speeddisk will 
have support for the very large HDs available today.

After speeddisk does its job, you can use fips to 
non-destructively repartition the HD.
