Hi! Bob.  If you are looking for a small office/home solution why don't you
try Fetchmail + Exim (MTA).  

Exim is simple to use.  It comes with a configuration tool, eximconfig, to
help make the configuration file easily. There is also a very good howto
article from the Linux Gazzette.  Exim also comes with very good but also
very techical help document. 

Exim can queue mail meant for other domains and send local mails
immediately.  It can be configured to automatically send queued mail after
you establish connection to your ISP.  It supports envelope header rewrites
so you can send email to other domains.
