Christie,

https:// is actually just http using port 413. All traffic through
that port is encrypted, hence, it is "secure". You will need to
generate/create a site certificate for sessions with your webserver to be
secure. Otherwise, access to your webserver will fall back to non-secure
mode or will fail completely.
