You know what I think? That feature (or bug, depending on your point of
view) was put there intentionally (if it would be unintentional, then
it'll just bolster claims that it was buggy) because of two reasons --
first, most users just don't bother with tinkering these options and
therefore would not be put to good use if it was set by default off, so
they turned it on -- and second, world domination -- they thought they are
the only people that will be able to do that, of course, which only
reinforces Danny's explanation - stupidity. They weren't thinking.
