We are thinking of teaching how to use linux tools for creating health
professional and health consumer education materials. I've been tinkering
with linux since 1994, when eric pareja (xenos) and I installed the first
Linux LAN in UP Manila.
I've looked at Freemed (have it running on one machine in the College),
and it looks good for small clinics and group practices. For a Hospital
Information System, it may not be suitable for large hospitals, like PGH.
Hence, for PGH, we are developing an HIS using PHP, Apache-ModSSL, and for
the moment, MySQL. We're hoping to move the database end to Oracle 8i in
the near future.
There's a web site for linux in medicine : http://www.linuxmednews.org/
