You might want to try out AbiWord. I got the 0.7.8 RPM. It has similar
functionality to WordPad. He he he.

However, if you're willing to undergo the layer of LaTeX, then LyX and
KLyX are admirably stable and functional. THREE years ago I was using
LyX. The only disadvantage (at that time) was you could only insert EPS
pictures (not JPG or anything else).

But LyX/KLyX are no-nonsense document processors (NOT "word
processors," the LaTeX mindset is different from the "I click many
fonts" mindset of most GUI word processors) for those who care to produce
the very best technical documents.
