Why so much concern over Posix standards? Understand first what Posix is
based on and master the rudiments. That will contextualize your study of
Posix and make it easier for you to understand. If you think about it,
you'll be learning so much more about Posix if you stopped looking for the
label "Posix" in text before absorbing the material. There's tons of
material that covers what has become Posix before Posix was even proposed.
How else will you be able to tell the difference, i.e. how Posix has
changed UNIX programming, if you are not familiar with pre-Posix UNIX
programming? As I understand things, the Posix standard is basically there
to formalize "standards" that have been in existence and widely in use
prior to its definition. Don't look too hard for something that's not
necessarily labeled outright. This reminds me of the movie "The Jewel of
the Nile" or some such similar tale. Posix is perhaps, right under your
nose.
