what do you mean 'screen is scrolls'?

i heard you can change the res using some redhat utils but you could
edit the XF86Config and add
DefaultColorDepth 16
(where 16 is 16bpp. you can put 8,16 or 32)
on your server's configuration. in your case, SVGA. this will use the
16 bpp settings, so just put 800x600 or whatever size you want in the
definition for 16bpp.
