I agree. But let's go about it the most productive way -- by actually
going to your local computer shops, and telling them about the merits of
Open Source software. This works best if you really know what you're
talking about, or if you have something you can show them concretely.
i'm a firm believer in evolution by natural selection. under the evolutionary pressure of oppressive software pricing, SOMETHING is bound to happen:
1) linux usage will become more widespread
2) M$ will make pricing adjustments
or something else. there's no need to be a "hero" about it. necessity is the mother of invention.
