Hmmm, from what I see, a typical Linux newbie hears of PLUG (the ML) from either word of mouth (or irc even ;) or from visiting the PLUG website. Indeed, from the latter, the first few lines introducing PLUG to the $visitor is: | NO TO SOFTWARE PATENTS IN THE PHILIPPINES! | Legalize your software NOW! Use GNU/Linux! | | Subscribe to the PLUG mailing list and find out how! Which is hardly newbie-friendly; it assumes that $visitor has a clue. And `Community Mailing Lists' is relegated as a subtopic in a list (which imho lacks a bit of context) and as an entry on the navigation sidebar. I apologize in advance if this sounds like a rant, but I think that improvements should be made to both PLUG the list and PLUG the website so as to make it more accessible to people who are completely new to Linux and FOSS, and who generally are fresh from using Windows or other systems. It is in fact easier for really NEWbies such as children with no computing experience to learn Linux since there's no point of comparison or preference for them; for the `immigrants', they don't have much of that luxury.
