believe it or not, i used to have that "configure the heck out of everything" mentality. and yes, i was initially dismayed at the lack of configurability of metacity compared to fvwm2, windowmaker, etc.
but guess what.. now i can live with it on a daily basis. havoc pennington is right, if you get the defaults as close to "perfect" as you can, the configurability can go to hell and most people will still love you. :)
i guess it all goes down to a choice: 5 years ago i worked with computers because i loved to do so. i loved coding. i loved hacking. today, i work with computers because it enables me to live the rest of my life, away from the keyboard. i'm still grateful that my work is something i like doing, but it's a means to an end, and no longer an end in itself.
hence, three cheers for havoc pennington and nat friedman! three boos for linus!
