member yata ako non. ill just assume that i am for now.

to answer your question, im struggling with real life. with limited time and
internet connection so i was skipping this thread until now. i saw the first
few arguments being posted pero i already saw a lot of familiar names so i was
hoping that the thread will be self-moderating. :D

orly speaks his personal experience and about facts that we all know to be
true. my only comment is with the numerous times orly posted the same problems
(and often he snipped the post he is answering to), it was beginning to feel
like a (no offense meant orly) political rant.

the thread has subsided and both sides has already aired their views. i think
we can let this thread go back to sleep. yeah, i dont have any delusions that
it wont come back. pero maybe next time we can escalate it to plug-misc[1]. i
dont think anybody came in front of anybody because this is one of those
discussions that will never end. but my summarization for everybody's benefit:

  * we have very corrupt-est[2] government sections that is a hurdle for FLOSS
adoption. some of this is produced by culture. you know it, i know it, we know
it, they know it.
  * our government can change. maybe not in this lifetime but it will
eventually happen. some believe this, some do not.
  * our government is useless and hopeless (when taken into the context of this
whole thread). some believe this, some do not.
  * PLUG as a party list rep? nah, we are all for grass-roots development. we
buck the system where IT matters[3]. PLUG is yet to stabilize since PLUG cant
even muster enough warm bodies for major org events. sad fact but the board is
already working on that too.

now to veer off in another direction since medyo depressing yung thread. i
just successfully "advocated" a teacher-friend of mine to install F/LOSS in
their school laboratory. she has yet to make the final jump to linux but i have
finally convinced her to install mandriva on her home computer for our course
submissions. the thing that i find beautiful in this is she is going to require
her students to use F/LOSS tools. although she has already installed a few
mandriva system in the school laboratory, she is still talking with the school
management if they can convert more systems into linux. i am not holding my
breath on the last one but i welcome the news of introducing more students to
F/LOSS. it makes all those long Y!M sessions worthwhile. :D

[1] plug-misc being greater than the technical list in certain areas. :)
[2] double superlative that will make webster turn in his grave
[3] trademark of that phrase pending verification

hibernate? possibly soon. end? never. to paraphrase the song "pinoy ako, pinoy
tayo". :P
