if you are planning to turn off your router everyday and turn on the ff day
then go for appliance router.

pc based routers are not good for frequent on and off since it uses
hard disk and you need to manually shutdown it unlike appliance router
where you just push the off button and its done.

There was a very long thread about this a few months ago--try looking
for it in the archives.  IIRC, the consensus that emerged was that
special-purpose appliances would probably be better for most
applications, except in certain cases, e.g. if you wanted to do proxy
caching (appliances that can do this cost more than PC's).
