Have you read any government Requests for Proposal (RFPs) or bid
announcements lately? A significant number *require* Windows Server
2003, MS SQL Server or Oracle or IBM's DB2, and maybe an Access
front-end. How can a FOSS solution win in a situation where it can't
even play?
Thats really lame!
It makes me angry.
M$ software was developed in a time when there was no freely available
high quality compilers and operating systems. M$ exploited that and
created a whole ecology of businesses. Thats fine with me.
The problem is fighting this whole intertwined mess that has permeated
our laws and systems that it s hard to take it out.
Thats why we need legislation. To fix this. The monopoly on technology
for creating software is broken. Its time we exploit its advantages
and remove the disadvantages and have the government put money on
where it have the biggest impact.
We do what we can of course. We have the tools anyway.
