i have a WRT54GS router and the only DMZ option here is to enable it. it has
description that says: " DMZ: Enabling this option will expose your router
to the Internet. All ports will be accessible from the Internet." So i
guess i dont need to enable ports, except if i disable DMZ and enable port
forwarding instead.

postconf -n displays these:

alias_database = hash:/etc/aliases
alias_maps = hash:/etc/aliases
append_dot_mydomain = no
best_mx_transport = local
biff = no
config_directory = /etc/postfix
home_mailbox = Maildir/
mailbox_size_limit = 0
mydestination = xxxxxxxx.gov.ph, localhost.gov.ph, , localhost
mynetworks = 127.0.0.0/8,192.168.1.0/24, xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/32
myorigin = /etc/mailname
recipient_delimiter = +
smtp_tls_session_cache_database = btree:${queue_directory}/smtp_scache
smtpd_banner = $myhostname ESMTP $mail_name (Ubuntu)
smtpd_recipient_restrictions = permit_sasl_authenticated,
permit_mynetworks,  reject_unauth_destination
smtpd_sasl_auth_enable = yes
smtpd_tls_cert_file = /etc/ssl/certs/ssl-cert-snakeoil.pem
smtpd_tls_key_file = /etc/ssl/private/ssl-cert-snakeoil.key
smtpd_tls_session_cache_database = btree:${queue_directory}/smtpd_scache
smtpd_use_tls = yes

Is your linksys firewall blocking outgoing smtp from the dmz?

I have two Linksys RV-042 up and running. And, by default, they are
blocking **all** traffic initiated from the DMZ.

i am wishing to send an email to an address at gmail DOT com

postfix issued this error: connect to alt1.gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com[
72.14.215.27]: No route to host

yes i can ping this server. i believe the default gateway of my server is
configured correctly because i can surf the net by using 192.168.1.1 as
default gateway and DNS server.

the firewall is built in a linksys router.
