Linux works fine with Bind from a measly linksys NSLU2 with only 32Mb of RAM to the latest X86 hardware. Have administered Bind on Linux and other *nix and the speed is fine on both.
You're asking a generic question with too many parameters in play like CPU speed, RAM, network speed and configuration of bind to make an intelligent answer to your question. A practical example, on your DNS server, nameserver could be the public ip address instead of the faster localhost.
