Yes you're absolutely right. I can see why open-source has great value, I still consider myself an open-source advocate. But, it's nice to have a feature /when/ you need it (and not have to cobble things together from stuff you find in forums... not exactly a good enterprise-software methodology). Of course you end up having to /pay/ a large sum for it.
In many, many cases, it is possible to get the Oracle feature with Free software. e.g. the multi-factor authorization? a cinch with IPtables and some Perl scripts. but Big Companies (TM) don't like the idea of their core database being secured by some Perl scripts... :-P On 4/26/07, Danny Ching <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

For instance, paying for a "professionally" made OS which crashes every time you use it or gets hit with spyware and viruses each time you connect to the net. As a network administrator, I'm willing to pay, if the product offers solutions which cannot be found in cheaper or free (as in beer) software.
