hi,
i have another server with 2 hard drives and set it up as raid 1. ive
installed debian etch and expecting to see only 1 hard drive because of raid 1
but how come i can still see 2 hard drives when i execute "fdisk -l"

Setting up RAID or changing RAID levels will wipe out your hard drives.
So you have to back up your system and data, configure RAID, then
restore your system and data.
After you've set up hardware RAID, it's transparent to the OS.
