Yes, hardware RAID is transparent to the OS provided that the OS supports
the Hardware Raid Device, otherwise you will still see 2 independent hard
drive.

You may want to check if your kernel supports your RAID devices, most of the
time, I use a third party drivers to make the RAID devices known to my OS.

the best way is check the mapping of the scsi device on the
initiator(linux). you can use sg utilites. check which ID, LUN that this
device mapped to.
you can also check the system logs or post the /var/log/messages so that
we can help you.
hardware raid is more transparent to the OS.
