Hello people, I have a problem using tar as backup for our mail server. Before, in Windows we have Veritas Instance for Lotus. Meaning, we don't have problem's in mailfile lockup resulting in maybe, corrupted backup/mailfile or skip of backup for open mailfile.
However, we now migrated to Linux and we are still in the process of getting our license for Veritas NetBackup and all its necessary installer for Linux and God know when I will have it. Now, the real problem is I am left with TAR to backup our mailfiles. But I'm pretty sure that while the Domino process is running, mail lockup is occurring which might prevent 100% backup or user complaining somebody is accessing their mails because file lockup occurs during backup (I hope I am wrong here). TAR is having some error at the end of backup so I am pretty sure there is a problem. The question is, what backup software are you guys using for Domino on Linux. Its gotta be more than TAR. Something with Lotus Instance or something that will backup "open files". I hope there is sweet open source solution for this. As of the moment, I have a clustered mailserver. Both Linux. I just stop the service on one server and do the backup using TAR. But not all of our sites have clustered mail server so I hope others have a better solution. Cheers, JGaspar
