Are you really sure you need it?

It does not matter if we need it. Its a company policy later that will
decide it. But I if I dont find another solution (openfile backup), I might
really think that we need it.

The question is, what backup software are you guys using for Domino on

BackupPC [1]
I'm sure the binary and the docs are available in SUSE's repository.
Here's one feature I love:
* No client-side software is needed. The standard smb protocol is used
to extract backup data on WinXX clients. On linux clients, tar over
ssh/rsh/nfs is used to backup the data. With version 2.0.0, rsync is
also supported on any client that has rsync or rysncd.[2]

You got it all wrong, I am referring to the "mailfile" as the mails residing
in the server.
My problem is when I backup using tar, there is a file-lock, either with
mails locked to domino, or locked to tar. This can result in tar skipping
the mails or worse, domino reporting to user that he cannot access the
mailfile (as what they call it in Lotus) thus might put my IT unit in
scrutiny to my RAO. And this can get political.

What I need is a way to backup mails even if its open or being used.
Just like Veritas Lotus/Domino Instance, it backup mails by connecting to
the Domino service and using the Domino system to access the mails. Thus no
mail lockup occurs. (This is done in the server)

As of the moment, I have a clustered mailserver. Both Linux. I just stop

I'm just not sure how it'll perform on clustered environment though.

I don't have the requirements to backup my clients as of the moment.

I need to be able to backup on the same server because not all of our site
have a spare server for clustered setting.

I hope others would share, I know there is a lot of admins here who have
Domino on Linux.

Cheers,
