http://linuxmovies.org/software.html AFAIK, there's still no industry-standard replacement for Maya when it comes to modelling. PRman and MR (Mental Ray) are still the best renderers out there (depends on what you want to achieve though, i.e. if you're into global illumination, the latter is best at that). If your company ha some budget to spare, I suggest you try out Maya for modelling, Mayaman for RIB generation/translation and then use AIR to render out these RIBs.
