First, a background about the QWERTY layout: it was designed for
typists who typed so fast on manual typewriters that the hammers would
stick together. When electronic typewriters, and then computer
keyboards, were designed, they had layouts that were familiar: QWERTY.
Thing is, QWERTY was designed to slow down overspeeding typists, and
electronic circuitry is orders of magnitude faster than mechanical
levers and hammers. Enter the Dvorak layout. I'll leave it to the
Dvorak users to decide whether they're more accurate, but I believe
they should be faster on Dvorak than on QWERTY.
