ive decided to put my money where my mouth is and finally make the big switch

im downloading the 8.04 ubuntu alternate cd iso via torrent now, and
will be installing asap, my main goal being to make this my main daily
use machine hopefully forever. As in 'Sayang ang XP license ko'
forever - forever.

I know the act of choosing an OS needs to go through committee but
frankly, I think OS wars are largely useless nowadays and besides, our
goal is to make a suitable (if not superior) desktop alternative for
icafes, so the choice of apps seem a more pressing issue as opposed to
platform. At any rate, if a relevant argument exists wherein I should
choose another Linux flavor, I'm all ears just the same.

So this makes me a beta - tester na rin.

I'll be blogging about this on a regular basis (I'll put up my PLUG
related Feed up on linux.org.ph soon). My primary concern, btw, re
this OS are its bundled multimedia apps, which I suppose is largely
unnecessary for iCafes. However this is still going to be my daily
desktop PC, so some concessions have to be made (I still wanna watch
my videos!).

Oh and finally, I didn't choose Ubuntu blindly as I have had some
experience running a vps webserver using Ubuntu / LAMPP, so I'm
actually comfy using terminal and apt, and ironically, zero experience
using it as a desktop. Anyway, we'll see.

here's the torrent if anyone cares to join me:

incidentally, Gideon's reference to WINE's compatibility list helped a
lot in this decision. I just can't live without photoshop. Giving that
up is just not gonna happen.
