I suggest you propose to them Linux as a viable alternative to what
they do using the computer (i.e. word processing etc.) then present
how it's done in Linux highlighting the benefit that (1) it's virus
free and can even catch those lurking viruses on their flash drives,
(2) legally free and avoid piracy hassle, (3) rarely crashes, (4)
secure and stable and (5) it has the most educational and technical
value as far as software and IT is concerned.
They should understand that Linux IS different, many made mistake
promising Linux to be 'like' Windows for the sake of
'user-friendliness', I suggest you find the way to make them realize
the vast benefits (technical and financial) after going over the
learning curve rather than trying to implement Windows-mindset hoping
for Linux acceptance, otherwise, it will only get them back to their
old habit of preferring Windows.

Installfest and burn fest could be the icing on the cake.
