first, you should think of the naming convention suited for your files and directories since they can be partitioned according to dept, groups, projects, clients, date, control numbers, etc. if i may ask, what filesystem are you going to use? are you expecting your users to browse/scan the fileserver 's directories using Windows' file explorer, then open/edit the file directly on the file server? how many concurrent user are you expecting at any given time? have you considered using a separate to store the index of your fileserver?
