Which actually makes Gary's problem sound kinda weird considering that the card 
he's having a problem with is NVIDIA-based.

Nvidia VCs are generally considered better on Linux, especially in terms of 3D 
performance & the presence of a better GPU video off-loading API (VDPAU).
