ok i screwed it up now. I decided to reinstall the driver and ran a

sudo sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-280.13.run

i ignored the 'Default Re: The distribution-provided pre-install
script failed!' proceed, yes/no? and proceeded, and it said it
installed correctly.

after rebooting i only get a blinking orange cursor. I can reboot into
terminal. I'm currently checking all sorts of google results for
'nvidia blank screen after reboot' etc., and variations, but no go. I
need to uninstall all nvidia stuff and redo the whole thing again but
am groping through this.

any help
