-d and -v are debug and verbose. Why would that work?
Hmm, I think there is firewall somewhere blocking udp 123. There's also
a -u option to use an unprivileged port for outgoing packets.
Apparently, when you invoke debugging mode ntpdate always uses an
unprivileged port.
That is it. Thanks so much for the help. Now I want to find out
where the firewall is. It could only be my dsl modem or my isp.
The firewall is in your house, unless you're stealing internet from
your neighbor. The DSL router is the most likely location by far.
