For DSL, time synchronization is important for error free communication. 
Many routers even provide NTP. It's possible that you could get NTP from 
the DSL router itself.

Also, you can run a traceroute on port 123 and see at which hop it times 
out.
traceroute 75.144.70.35 -p 123
