It's fine to do that, but to sit there and watch someone non-technical 
sit on the phone for 5 hours and do nothing about it, when he could 
have? ¡Ay, caramba! If he's going to make his mom do it, then he should 
have just told her to tell Dell to send another one and be done with it. 
They may have wanted to try and fix it over the phone, but just say no 
and get another one.
