If it's bad hardware, then the existing hardware has failed. I can say
that with certainty because I never had a problem with either VM in the
past. Therefore, the hardware has always been adequate. The computer has
4GB of RAM, and I allocated only 1 GB to each of the VMs, and I have
never run more than one at a time. The hard disk is 320 GB, with about
100 GB free space. And as for heat, I wasn't doing anything serious
with the computer at the time I tried launching the VM. Plus, I tried
again after doing the latest updates and rebooting; in other words, I
had nothing at all running and I still got a lockup when trying to start
the VM.

The issue of the BIOS hanging is likely unrelated to the VM hangups. I
doubt that it is heat, but there are other possibilities. The VM
hangups are more likely due to some software incompatibility.
