this, above all else is key IMNSHO. it's my #1 backup requirement.

Regular backups should be automated so you don't have to remember
them, but there ought to be a facility for doing a manual backup,
e.g., before a business trip or an OS upgrade.
Regardless of backup automation, you *do* have to remember
periodically to test restoration from backups. It's mandatory.
(Linus himself will arrest you if you forget.)
