I forgot to mention - I didn't lose any data or config when reinstalling
vBox.
Data/VMs live, by default, in your $HOME/*VM directory, config is in
.config/VirualBox* directory.
Installing/removing a package should not touch your home the same way
uninstalling libreOffice doesn't delete your documents.
That said - it may be good idea to backup those directories from time to
time if you care about the VMs.
Hope that helps,
Yes, it does. I've always been a fan of having more than one machine
running most of my stuff, in the event that something goes wrong with
the other one. I'm about to begin unloading the Ubuntu version of
VirtualBox on my secondary machine. I appreciate your advice, both in
your initial response, and this one. I'll post my results later on.
Thanks!
I followed the steps listed at
https://linuxcapable.com/install-virtualbox-on-ubuntu-linux/
All went well until I got to installing the extension pack.
wgethttps://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/7.0.x/Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-7.0.x.vbox-extpack
The instructions told me to replace 7.0.x with 7.0.20 (twice). Said file
does not exist. Looking at the Oracle directory, I don't find 7.0.20.
There is an extension pack at 7.0.0_BETA1. Will that work? If not, where
do I look the extension pack?
