source filesystem is whatever was default on installing Ubuntu 14 on a new
computer bought without an operating system.

Here are the errors with some names replaced indicated by "[ ]'. I did not
see any special characters in any of the names, but the report had a series
of dots in some filenames suggesting they were shortened for the on screen
error report.

Error while copying “XLR Adapter for Camcord... 91131221761 | [hidden
name].html”.

There was an error copying the file into
/media/jim/PNY_32G_SD/Desktop/--[directory name deleted]--.

Invalid filename

---

Replace file “--[filename was here]---”.jpg

Note: Both files have same date, but different sizes: 155.3 & 155.1 kB

---

3 more-Replace file– (different date & size)

---

Error while copying an *.html file

Invalid filename

---

3 more-Replace file– (different date & size)

---

There was an error creating the folder “Ma--[deleted name]---... secure
advantage._files”.

Invalid filename

---

2 more-Replace file– (different date & size)

I am inclined to try Mint if I have to go beyond a click to install the
latest Ubuntu, which appears to be 24 for LTS

Thank You for you reply and help.
